As the representative for the WFOG at the GOSC Regional Communications, I was wondering if you had any burning questions to ask at the next meeting on Fri 2nd March 2012.

To help you along, here is the agenda for the day:
1: Development of the profession
2: Revalidation and CPD
ie Feedback from Revalidation pilots along with Tools available to all osteopaths
Is the current CPD scheme fit for purpose?
3: Patient support inc Patient charter/leaflets/partnership group
4: Osteopathic Practice Standards
ie Communicating risk and obtaining valid consent
E-learning tools for osteopaths
5: Are you risking censure by the ASA?
6: IJOM Plus Feedback from osteopaths on journal resources
7: Issues update
ie GOsC fee reduction
Registrant survey
GOsC Facebook page
Olympics
RCN page on o zone
NCOR update

So why not post on here if there is anything you want to know.

why are the risk & consent issues for osteopaths being pushed so much more than the other professions? At least that what it appears to be? For us it seems to be excessively onerous? The GOsC seems to have set its sights on this, got its teeth into this and won't let it go or at least ease up on it????

How about if I ask:

"What is importance of risk & consent and how it is being employed in other professions (e.g. is there a directive) and how it differ in its implementation in Osteopathy compared to other healthcare professionals?"

Does that seem reasonable?

But I would guess it is more important in the primary healthcare due to internal examinations, surgical procedures, anaesthesia etc.

PS these are the notes that I took from the last meeting that Daryl Posted:

This is the answer that the GOSC gave:

It stems from case Law surrounding an earlier revision of the Codes of Practice around 2005, which applies to all health care professionals. The GMC has published alot of information around this also the GOSC found this difficult to assess risk and consent due to its complexity so they initiated research which is almost complete so hopefully will be released in the near future but unsure exactly when.

Hope this answers your question.

Shall I send you and steve the minuted copies when they are complete?
